Please take note that this text is an early 20th Century text on the subject of Goshinjutsu, and that this is not regarding Goshinjutsu as a set of “self defense” techniques (as the idiom is sometimes applied.) It is in regard to the artifice itself, and there is quite a bit of difference. This Goshinjutsu is most certainly from Japanese Budo (martial arts) but some forms of it are considered to be somewhat separate. One then knows that it has contribution to the material contents of several later descended Japanese martial arts. Some modern sources link this school to the origins of some forms of Aikido – but how much and in what forms contribution occurs is at best difficult to say. This text provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about these pre-modern fighting arts of which many modern practitioners are somewhat ignorant. But the text may seem to say things that you might find surprising or at least confusing. It would be a grave error to view the text as if it were a representative of either the principles and philosophies of Aikido and modern Aiki Jujutsu. It should be understood as representing itself (late 19th Century and early 20th Goshinjutsu). |
