You must be a member of the AFJ in order to enjoy AFJ Chartering. There is no absolute requirement to Charter through the AFJ, see the accompanying documents for more information on the subject. Chartering exists in several forms and is done only once (there is no expiration date) but in the case of AFJ Chartered Private Instructor, there may be a need to renew the charter if you had an advance in Blackbelt rank and your old Charter Certificate does not list that rank.

Depending on what arragnements may have been made in the course of maintaing the Charter(s), there may be a small number of other nominal fees charged (sometimes there are none, depending).  The cost of any additional fees is very low. There is no reqiurement to engage in any of these additional services (one could maintain the Charter(s) under the simplest of arrangements.)
